Summary

The Domestic Violence Act No. 11 of 2022 is a piece of legislation that facilitates a robust and coordinated approach to the overall prevention and response to Domestic Violence in Saint Lucia. Considered one of the most progressive in the region, this Act does not discriminate against any person who is subject to violence on the basis of their sex, marital status, sexual orientation and type of domestic relationship. It ensures access to justice for a wide range of people from a wide range of acts that constitute Domestic Violence. It outlines the responsibilities of the Police in responding to reports of Domestic Violence and mandates the Minister to provide adequate resources in the budget for comprehensive, coordinated support services for survivors of Domestic Violence. Additionally, the Minister is charged with the responsibility to ensure that criminal justice and healthcare providers receive the required training to provide high quality services to survivors.
